A footwear brand has given work boots to high school seniors interested in careers in construction.

Cat Footwear, a brand of Rockford-based Wolverine Worldwide, a footwear and apparel maker, partnered with the Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids Foundation to give the boots to 50 seniors graduating from the Kent Career Tech Center.

The students received vouchers to claim their boots, and Cat Footwear employees were on site to help identify the best products for each student.

The graduates will be invited to provide feedback on their experiences with the footwear after 60 days and again after one year.

They will also be given opportunities to win merchandise and discounts.

“There has never been a better time to purse one of the many rewarding career paths in homebuilding, and they’ll be better prepared with the right footwear,” said Andy Lofgren, executive officer of the association.
