Spanish footwear companies exported more than 148 million pairs of shoes during the first 11 months of 2017, an increase of 2.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.

These figures were included in a report compiled by trade show organiser IFEMA and based on data from footwear industry organisation FICE.

The value of these exports was €2.5 billion, an increase of 1.5% compared to the value of footwear exports during the first 11 months of 2016.

The report highlighted an increase of 10% in exports to the US and an increase of 30% in exports to Russia.

Footwear not made from leather represented 72% of the total volume of exports during the period, although it made up just 45% of their total value. The report said shoes made from rubber or plastics showed the highest export growth.

The president of FICE, José Monzonís, said: “The good export performance towards the end of 2017 will continue in 2018, with forecasts for growth in external markets of 2% or 3%.”
