Chinese authorities say they have been working with the US Department of Homeland Security to curb illegal trafficking in counterfeit goods [Xinhua]

Chinese media on Wednesday said that agents from both China and the US worked together to bring down several groups and arrest at least 36 suspects that were involved in copyright infringement.

The Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said that a joint task force between the two countries managed to terminate operations in seven companies throughout China which had been manufacturing, marketing and distributing fake and counterfeit products

They confiscated 3,000 brand-name leather products, bags and suitcases, glasses, watches and accessories – all of which are counterfeit.

This came as China’s General Administration of Customs said that it had uncovered more than 1,500 of cases intellectual property infringement on manufactured items exported to the US.

In early November, customs officials in Zhanjiang province in southwest China seized and destroyed more than 6,000 counterfeit electric cookers.

In late September, customs officials in the northeastern province of Dalian seized thousands of parcels containing counterfeit sportswear and other items. They parcels were to be mailed to 30 countries, including many in Europe.

Early this year, the public security department in southern China’s city of Guangzhou discovered an English website selling fake goods, including Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Rolex brands, to the United States and other countries worldwide.
