Chemicals manufacturer BASF has announced the creation of a new division which it says will allow it to “pursue business opportunities in 3D printing”.

The new group, which will be called BASF 3D Printing Solutions, will start operations in September 2017. It will be headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany and will employ around 30 people, many of whom already work for BASF in the field of 3D printing.

BASF has explained that the new division will focus on developing materials, system solutions, components and services in the field of 3D printing. To this end, it will work closely with researchers and application engineers from BASF, as well as from external partners, such as universities and potential customers. This will allow it to develop solutions for a wide array of requirements.

The company expects the new group’s customers to be mainly firms that want to use 3D printing for industrial production in industries like automotive, aerospace and consumer goods.
