February’s leather export figures from Brazil show a fall of 17.8% in value and of 10.6% in volume year on year.
In February 2017, tanners exported almost 16.9 million square-metres of wet blue, crust and finished leather with a combined value of $161.1 million.
Figures for the first two months of 2017 show that finished leather’s share of the total volume was 52.9% and the share that finished hides had of the total value was 59.4%. Finished leather showed declines year on year of 10.4% in volume and of 5.6% in value.
The figures for crust show a much steeper decline: of 48.5% in volume and of 44.4% in value. Exports of wet blue were also down year on year, by 5.3% in volume and 6.7% in value.
