Nike not keen on rival Cristiano Ronaldo shoes

Media in Spain have said Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has incurred the wrath of Nike because of his work with a small footwear producer in his home country, Portugal.

Shoes bearing the name CR7 (his initials and shirt number) came onto the market in April 2014 as part of a joint venture between the athlete and Portuguese footwear company Armando Silva.

Reports in media in Madrid now say Nike has no objection to this Portuguese partnership producing dress shoes, but that the sports brand is far less keen on allowing athletic footwear to form part of any CR7 collection.

Some reports have even suggested that Nike gave the footballer an ultimatum: either keep sports shoes out of the CR7 line or say goodbye to one of the wealthiest endorsement contracts in football, rumoured to be worth almost €9 million per year.
