Indonesian outsource manufacturers made almost a quarter of all adidas shoes in 2013.

Globally, the sports group’s suppliers produced 257 million pairs of shoes last year, with 24% of them made in Indonesia.

The figures came to light during a recent visit to Indonesia by the Hong Kong-based senior vice-president of sourcing for adidas, John McNamara.

During the visit, which was partly to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of adidas’s first contracts with suppliers in Indonesia, Mr McNamara held talks with a range of the company’s current outsource manufacturing partners there.

He said that adidas was unlikely to increase the number of companies it was working with there, preferring to cement current relationships by expanding its business with “a few big, good suppliers”.
